we are getting closer
instead being so mysterious about this project, i might as well give a bit of detail to what is going on. the Brooklyn Gypsy EP is a musical journey that my buddy, renaissance and myself have embarked on, in order to create our interpretation of some of our favorite sounds from my favorite band, beirut. this project will act as an incarnation of some of our ideas and eccentric ways of thinking. these sounds and songs will conjure up thoughts that this music is foreign and far off, while simultaneously laying a texture that is familiar and close to home. this project is about traveling, without ever leaving.
we will have this thing wrapped up by the end of this month. please stay tuned. tracklisting and release date coming shortly.

midnight religion: the words (as asked for)
midnight religion
spontaneous tradition
dark was the night
clear is the premonition
sleeping city, be still my dear
still, they fear my decision
of a midnight religion
experimenting with geography
and subliminal typography
the dichotomy of my theology
looks a bit like romantic psychology
what a divine comedy
and this lacks ego, we would accept your apology
but until then
this is our midnight religion
as we escape the pollution
of fascinating illusions
which attempt to tempt us toward tip-toeing around
organized confusion
we dance the night away
cleansed by the light of day
the break of dawn is my sage so i sit it its feet and wait -
and pray - and become clay
this is my midnight religion

(these words came to me one morning and i felt like it needed some imagery, and so this was the outcome)

a short lesson in tap
i have a special love for tap and fayard and harold nicholas were some of the best to ever do it.
gregory hines was the keynote speaker at my high school graduation and he was quoted in saying "that if the biography of the nicholas brothers was ever filmed, the dance sequences would have to be computer generated because no one would be able to perform the moves."
and speaking of the late great gregory hines, this was one of my favorite movie scenes growing up, CHALLENGE!
and it was this very episode of the cosby show that got me interested in tap.
well, since we are at it, we might as well close with this amazing video of two legends. savion glover has the torch now.
